Doing most of my fishing in Wellington it's inevitable that you're going to end up in the rain or less than ideal weather. In the short time I have had this jacket it's already been put to the test a couple times and I have found myself just as dry as I was at the start of the day and still warm. It's proven handy as a an extra layer to keep those freezing southerly winds at bay as well. The large pockets have also been great for keeping fly boxes, tippet and a few other odds and ends close by and ready as I've needed them. A great jacket for a wet and/or windy weather on the river and around town to be fair.
This jacket is built tough and adds the right amount of external protection from any weather. The pockets stay dry even when getting splashed at sea and the cut is generous to allow additional layers underneath.
The fathom jacket has been perfect for my style of fishing, as a bit of a do it all fishermen with a preference for getting a feed I find myself in a lot of different situations.
One thing that stays the same is the reliability of this jacket at keeping me dry, I’ve put it through a week of Fiordland rain in the backcountry, hunted the rainforest of the West Coast, battled the surf on east coast beaches chasing rig and been sprayed by saltwater battling out to the deep and it’s never let me down!
Super light as well and the pockets are awesome!
My only thoughts of improvement would be to make the hood slightly larger but other than that I can’t fault this awesome bit of kit!
Fishing out of my little 450Cc is a good test for any outdoor clothing, since I’m fully exposed to the elements at all times.
I’ve been taking the Fathom jacket through it’s paces on recent trips and I’m truly impressed. It’s super light, no water and wind gets through it and on top of everything, the design and overall quality is fantastic.
Can only highly recommended to all the outdoor enthusiasts out there.
Fishing for a living means the gear i use needs to be up to the test, this jacket has proven itself for me on many occasions.
Comfy, 100% waterproof and tough, highly recommended.
